From his roots in graffiti, Arman Nobari transitioned to portraiture to focus on the relationship established when looking someone in the eyes – and the exploration of various emotions conveyed in that single moment. In his own words:
“Transcending language, our eyes enable deeply profound emotional communication. Our faces hold so much truth about what we’re going through as people, without necessarily sharing the journey which got us to that point. The notion of rendering an ephemeral sentiment in ink endlessly fascinates me.”
His work utilizes stippling, crosshatching, homemade ink, and abstract elements to convey and emphasize the emotions of subjects.
Outside of art, Arman is an Interaction Designer at YouTube. He currently resides in San Francisco, California, with his rescue mutt, Luca.
